Jacquelyn Shay Obituary

Jacquelyn Shay, 70, of Kingwood, passed away Monday February 15, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born December 13, 1950 in Akron, OH, the daughter of the late William Newsome and Lena May Fields.

 

Jackie was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother who treasured her time with her family.

She enjoyed spending time with her five grandchildren and was very skilled in the garden. Jackie also loved spending time and summer holidays at Big Bear Lake. She was very crafty and made many beautiful crocheted items over the years and was an avid reader, enjoyed ceramics  and a cruise enthusiast. Jackie graduated form Valley High School in Masontown and the Morgantown Beauty College and thereafter owned and operated the Touch of Class beauty salon our of her home in Kingwood for 20 plus years. She stayed home with her children when they were younger but then also worked at various places around Kingwood over the years including Kenney Shoe, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Insurance Centers, and early on was co-owner and operator of Shay’s Exxon in the heart of Kingwood for five years.

 

Jackie is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Jim Shay; a daughter and son and their spouses;

Jenny (Shay) Baylor and husband, Scott of Gladesville and Jay Shay and wife, April (Darby) of Bruceton Mills; five grandchildren, Alyssa and Morgan Baylor and Will, Owen and Jackson Shay.; step father, Harry Fields III of Kanes Creek; a younger sister, Sharon McMillen and husband Pat of Morgantown, three sister in- laws, Linda Shay of Myrtle Beach, SC, Diana (Cartwright) Newsome of Reedsville, Candy (Born) Wolfe and husband, Bob of Reedsville and a brother in-law, Larry Haney of Kingwood as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her father and mother in law, Eddie and Eleanor Shay; three brothers, Gary, Gerald and Rick Newsome and a sister, Sheila (Fields) Haney.

 

A visitation to celebrate Mrs. Shay’s life will be held at Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood on Sunday February 28, 2021 from  2 -5 PM.

 

During the visitation social distancing will be observed and masks are required.

 

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Literacy Volunteers of Monongalia and Preston Counties which can be found online at lvmpc.org.
