Floyd Myers Obituary

Floyd Vaughn Myers (86) passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2020 at home in Howesville, WV with his wife and family by his side.

He was born on May 6, 1934 to Henry and Goldie Myers.  He grew up near Morgantown, WV and served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  Upon his return, he met the love of his life, Janet Williams.  He worked 42 years in the coal mining industry and experienced many changes through the years.  He enjoyed the past 24 years of retirement, loving his wife, kids, and grandkids.  He easily made many friends with his welcoming and helpful personality.  He was a passionate WVU sports fan.  Good or bad season, he loved his Mountaineers.  He was a faithful and active member of Camp Chapel United Methodist Church where he served in many roles and openly shared his faith.  He was also a member of the Tunnelton VFW, the American Legion in Oakland, MD, the Tunnelton Lion’s Club and Gideons International.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Williams Myers, two sons, Tim Myers (Debbie) of Austin, TX and Mark Myers (Buffy) of Greensburg, PA and daughter, Missy Mattingly (Gene) of Winchester, VA.  He is also survived by his brother, Edward Myers of Thornton, WV, two sisters, Janis Lewis of Kingwood, WV and Joyce Watkins of Tunnelton, WV and eight grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews.  Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Goldie Myers; brothers, Clifford, Robert, Everett, James and sisters Margaret Childs, Anna Mae Jackson, and Violet Myers.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family thanks Cheryl, Deena, Lori, and Penny with West Virginia Caring for the excellent care, advice and compassion they provided to the family.  The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Camp Chapel UMC, 2328 Campground Road, Tunnelton, WV 26444 or West Virginia Caring, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Floyd V. Myers.
